Original Item: Only One Available. This is a fantastic Post Vietnam war era PRK-37 flight helmet in a size large. About 1978, the U.S. Navy began using the PRK-37/P Helmet Shell as the basis for nearly all of its non-helicopter flight helmets. Collectors, dealers and a few authors have misidentified or failed to identify the variations of the PRK-37/P. The PRK-37 helmet shell is listed as a Lightweight version of the APH-6 series helmet.
At the end of the 50's the APH series helmets introduced a new generation of flight helmets characterized by the external visor covered with a protective shield. Improvement of the communication system, internal liner and oxygen mask retainers was also made and in some versions the dual dark and transparent visors system was installed. These types of helmets were the US Navy and USMC standard jet aircraft headgear during the 60's and throughout the 70's. In this period the first development of a flight helmet incorporating the Visual Target Acquisition System (VTAS I) was also made.
This helmet is in wonderful condition with minor wear present and still retains its chinstrap as well as the boom mic. The single “horn” visor is of the dark tint variety and is still clear. The back side of the helmet still retains the original depot label.
